Adaptive Shield has officially expanded its operations into France. The move is in response to increased customer demand for its SaaS Security Posture Management (SSPM) solution. It has also promoted Albert Anconina from Country to Regional Director.

Maor Bin, CEO and co-founder of Adaptive Shield commented, “The establishment of our presence in France marks a significant milestone in our global expansion strategy, underscoring our commitment to providing localised support for our large enterprise customers.

“Expanding our presence in France will help organizations be better prepared to head off existing and future SaaS security threats.”

What is SSPM

SaaS Security Posture Management (SSPM) is about understanding, managing, and resolving the security risks that SaaS applications pose. Many SaaS apps are acquired by individuals or departments rather than through the IT team. It creates a black hole for IT security teams, who often do not know what data is being used by the applications or what access those apps have to devices.

SSPM looks to change that by exposing the configuration settings for SaaS applications. It allows IT Security teams to see and manage the applications at a granular level. Importantly, it also allows them to apply all security, identity and access controls to those applications. That ensures that they can enforce Identity Threat Detection and Response controls.

The company also has a product called Integration Builder. This allows customers to extend SSPM to other SaaS applications. More importantly, it allows them to extend it to SaaS solutions that the organisation has written itself.

Importantly, while Adaptive Shield distinguishes between CASB and SSPM, it also says the two complement each other. In doing so, it positions SSPM as an additive rather than a replacement technology.

Who is Albert Anconina?

Anconina has been with Adaptive Shield since November 2021, when he joined as Head of Sales Development. He was appointed Country General Manager for France in September 2023. That role has now expanded, and he will be responsible for driving Adaptive Shield across Europe.

Before his appointment in November 2021, he worked at Dome9 (acquired by Check Point), Cyberint and Hysolate. All those roles were in sales and business development.

What will have attracted the attention of Adaptive Shield is that he holds two Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), one earned in France, the other in Singapore. He also has a Master’s degree in Diplomacy and Conflict Studies in Business from Reichman University in Israel.

Enterprise Times: What does this mean?

Growth and expansion due to customer demand are always good things. It is even better when that growth is sufficient to open a country office and create a regional office.

Adaptive Shield last raised funds in July 2023, and to date, it has raised a total of US $44 million across three funding rounds. This latest move is self-funded, showing that customer numbers are rising, and the company is controlling its burn-through. The question is, can the company continue product development without another funding call?

It will also be interesting to see how quickly the SSPM market grows in Europe. Frost & Sullivan already highly rates the company, and Gartner sees it as a useful tool for junior security staff. Can it also secure high marks from other analysts?

In terms of partnerships, it has signed deals with several companies to act on its behalf in territories where it doesn’t have a presence. It is also available through the Google Cloud, Azure and AWS marketplaces.
