While the company has its origins in the 1920s, in 2005, it was re-invented as a luggage services and repair company for the airline industry. Headquartered in Germany the organisation now has offices in five countries and operates in 20 European countries in total.

Dolfi1920 operates worldwide, working with some of the world’s largest airlines, including AirFrance, Lufthansa and American Airlines. It provides tailored business solutions that manage the warranty and repairs for passengers who have suffered damage to their luggage during the journey.

The service includes replacement luggage and a means of assessing damage, providing the parts or a repair service with home delivery. Its repair services are warranted by 15 leading manufacturers, including Samsonite, Delsey and Titan.

Dolfi1920 chooses Rootstock

The company has used Salesforce Sales Cloud since 2021. Which it has integrated into Genesys Cloud, which helps operate its Polish service centre. With a multinational operation to run, its thoughts turned to its operational processes, including finance and inventory. Already embarked on a cloud strategy, it moved its Genesys application to Genesys Cloud in 2020. It knew it wanted a cloud ERP solution.

Alongside Rootstock, it also considered NetSuite, SAP, and Microsoft, however, Rootstock on the Salesforce platform provides one key advantage. It also assesses its critical needs against the Rootstock solution, with key factors that include accurate invoicing, rapid implementation, and responsive customer service.

Gal Zentner, General Manager at Dolfi1920, explained, “At Dolfi1920, our mission is to create consistent, exceptional experiences that drive value for customers and ongoing loyalty. We rapidly progressed from a local company to one with a global footprint. Ongoing growth has dictated our need for a solution like Rootstock. Built on the Salesforce Platform, this ERP will support our momentum and provide a 360-degree view of our operations.

“We’ll be able to balance customer demand with inventory across our warehouses. Customers can easily view in-stock items available for immediate delivery. With improved visibility across our suppliers and core business functions, we’ll be able to focus on what we do best—delighting customers and supporting our global ecosystem of airlines and luggage manufacturers.

“Another thing that set Rootstock apart was the spirit of collaboration and ability to address our unique needs as a European company with operations worldwide. Through our conversations with the team, we were impressed with Rootstock’s ability to address head-on the organizational problems we were experiencing and provide realistic and achievable solutions.”

The implementation of Rootstock ERP

Dolfi1920 has already commenced the implementation process. I asked Rootstock who would carry out the implementation.

Caroline Santander, SVP of Global Professional Services and Enablement, replied, “Rootstock’s Global Professional Services is managing the Rootstock ERP implementation.”

Dolfi1920 aims to complete the process before the end of Q2, though it may slip into the beginning of Q3. However, Dolfi1920 is determined to transform luggage services with Rootstock and complete the work before the busy summer travel season. This is a rapid implementation, but a challenge that Rootstock developed its QuickStart implementation methodology to deliver.

Where and which modules will Dolfi1920 roll out? Santander replied, “Dolfi1920 will be deployed across multiple countries. The company will be using Rootstock for their order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, inventory management, and financial processes.”

Besides Salesforce, Dolfi1920 will also leverage Avalara for its tax reporting. Avalara works closely with Rootstock and has been integrated into the sales tax and compliance software for more than ten years.

Raj Badarinath, Chief Product and Marketing Officer at Rootstock Software, commented, “Dolfi1920 is the epitome of entrepreneurial spirit. The company identified and now fills a critical niche in the travel industry. Imagine if you’re travelling and discover your luggage has been damaged on a flight; Dolfi1920 helps process these claims, makes repairs, and even delivers replacement bags to your door.

“Since the company solves a tangible problem for airlines and travellers alike, they’ve grown quickly. With Rootstock ERP, Dolfi1920 is now equipped with a cloud-based, global solution designed to support it through the next phase of its evolution, namely ongoing international expansion.”

Once implemented, Dolfi1920 can also take advantage of the automation and reporting features embedded within Rootstock. This will not only help to reduce some of the manual processes within the company it will also provide the firm’s leaders with visibility across the organisation. This will be critical during the high season as the automation will increase the efficiency of its staff. Helping them to better cope with the increase in service tickets.

Enterprise Times: What does this mean?

This is a significant win for Rootstock in the DACH region, especially pitched against SAP. It demonstrates that when organisations have already selected Salesforce as their CRM, Rootstock becomes an obvious option.

On the Salesforce platform it has no significant competition within the sectors it operates in. Its strength is in inventory and service management giving it a key advantage. What will be interesting is how Dolfi1920’s first summer season using the new platform goes. It is completing the work during a quiet period but under pressure. Its early months will put considerable pressure on the system, and it will be interesting to see how it holds up and what Dolfi1920 thinks of the software in the fall.
