Acquisition BeyondTrust of Entitle. Image credit https://pixabay.com/users/absolutvision-6158753/BeyondTrust has announced the acquisition of Entitle, the just-in-time permissions access management vendor. This is the first acquisition announced by BeyondTrust since its July 2021 funding round led by Clearlake Capital Group.

Founded in 2021 by Avi Zetser and Ron Nissim, Entitle has raised $15 million in funding. It is mainly based in Israel, but also has a presence in New York led by Nissim. Its platform orchestrates just-in-time privileged access management (JIT PAM) to a range of applications and platforms.

It currently supports access management for over 150 platforms, including commonly used ones such as:

  • AWS
  • Azure
  • GCP
  • Kubernetes
  • MongoDB
  • NetSuite
  • Salesforce
  • Snowflake

The solution enables organisations to grant access quickly and on a time-bound, as-needed basis. Access management has always been a challenge for IT teams, with individuals rarely having access management revoked as roles change, leaving potential security vulnerabilities in their systems. The Entitle platform enables customers to move towards a zero-standing privileges approach.

Entitle has built a self-service platform with provisioning workflows that remove the administrative and time-consuming processes for security teams. The acquisition includes all Entitle products, employees, customers, partners, assets, and intellectual property.

Also, BeyonddTrust has relabelled Entitle as a BeyondTrust company rather than subsuming the organisation under its brand completely, at present. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Ron Nissim, Co-Founder and CEO of Entitle, said, “Entitle’s JIT Access and Cloud Permissions Management solution is an emerging leader in the Identity Security market,” says “This acquisition allows Entitle to continue to grow through BeyondTrust’s years of expertise and dominance in the PAM market – offering significant opportunities for Entitle’s team.”

Extending BeyondTrust capabilities

With this acquisition, BeyondTrust has significantly strengthened its identity security platform with a modern, automated and complementary solution. The Entitle solution also extends its privileged access management (PAM) capabilities beyond cloud vendors to SaaS vendors. It also strengthens its cloud infrastructure entitlement management (CIEM), delivering a more efficient and automated solution.

Paul Fisher, Senior Analyst at KuppingerCole Analysts, commented, “BeyondTrust’s acquisition of Entitle adds comprehensive permissions and entitlements management across cloud and SaaS platforms to the BeyondTrust Privileged Identity Security platform.”

It also means that BeyondTrust can help organisations better tackle one of their most complex and time-consuming tasks: privileged access management (PAM) and cloud infrastructure entitlement management (CIEM). It now has a combination of tools that will help organisations to better manage their access management needs.

Janine Seebeck, CEO of BeyondTrust, commented, “The BeyondTrust acquisition of Entitle signifies a crucial evolution in our fight to ensure customers can protect all paths to privileges, focusing on identity-first security across all IT environments. Adopting a unified, orchestrated approach that incorporates dynamic, just-in-time access is critical for safeguarding our customers’ ever-changing paths to privilege. This strategy not only reduces operational friction, but also enhances the security of the entire identity infrastructure more effectively.”

The Entitle product is already available for BeyondTrust customers here.

Enterprise Times: What does this mean

This is an acquisition by BeyondTrust that makes sense. While it might have developed its solution, it would have taken time and resources that are better focused elsewhere. While there is some overlap between the products, it appears minimal, and the self-service automation capabilities the Entitle provides seem better. Whether the overlap will see BeyondTrust replace elements of its platform with Entitle is unclear at the moment.

BeyondTrust is already a leader in the most recent Gartner Magic Quadrant for Privileged Access Management. This acquisition should see it cement that and move it further up the completeness of the vision scale. It will be interesting to see how analysts react to the acquisition and integration. Fisher’s reaction indicates that it will be positive.

Enterprise Times did contact BeyondTrust with some questions about this announcement but we are awaiting a response.
